Lucerne is a city with a vibrant historic center rich in culture. Stroll through its picturesque streets, admire its historic monuments, and immerse yourself in its fairytale atmosphere.
But the absolute highlight of your journey is the legendary high-altitude excursions of Central Switzerland.
Prepare to be left breathless aboard Mount Rigi, accessible via Europe's first-ever cogwheel railway, where a stunning panorama unfolds across 13 lakes, the Mittelland, and the entire Alpine arc stretching all the way to Germany and France.
The adventure continues as you scale the majestic Mount Pilatus aboard the steepest cogwheel railway in the world—a spectacular train that climbs between sheer rock faces and legendary peaks overlooking Lake Lucerne.
Finally, you will experience the thrill of the Stanserhorn, reached by the world’s first cable car featuring a completely open-air upper deck, allowing you to travel suspended in the air with the wind in your hair while a 360-degree view embraces the Bernese Oberland and the Swiss lakes.

Program
Day 1: Mount Rigi and the Cruise on Swiss Fjords
  • Morning: Board the scheduled boat in Lucerne for a spectacular cruise on Lake Lucerne to Vitznau. From here, ride the historic red cogwheel railway (Europe's first) to the summit of Rigi Kulm.
  • Afternoon (Choose your pace):
    • Hiking: A scenic trek along the grassy ridges toward Rigi Scheidegg, walking suspended between the blue lakes on the valley floor and the peaks of Central Switzerland.
    • Walking: The famous and gentle flat trail from Rigi Kulm to Rigi Kaltbad, suitable for everyone, which follows the track of an old alpine railway offering immense vistas. Afterward, relax in Rigi Kaltbad (home to the renowned thermal baths).
  • Evening: Return to Lucerne by cable car and boat via Weggis. Dinner on the lakeside promenade and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mount Pilatus and the Golden Round Trip
  • Morning: Depart from Lucerne by boat to Alpnachstad. Here, board the steepest cogwheel railway in the world (with a gradient up to 48%) that climbs through rocks and pastures up to 2,132 meters on Mount Pilatus.
  • Afternoon (Choose your pace):
    • Hiking: Walk along the cliff-side path of the Tomlishorn (the highest point of Pilatus) or take a scenic hike toward the surrounding ridges to admire the entire Alpine arc.
    • Walking: Explore the "Dragon Fortress" galleries at the summit, relax on the panoramic terraces, and enjoy lunch in one of the historic high-altitude restaurants.
  • Late Afternoon: Descend on the opposite side aboard the spectacular "Dragon Ride" aerial cable car and return to Lucerne by trolleybus. Second overnight stay.
Day 3: The Open-Top Stanserhorn and the City of Bridges
  • Morning: Short train journey from Lucerne to Stans. Ride the historic 1893 wooden funicular railway and then transfer to the CabriO, the world's first cable car with a completely open upper deck. You will travel in the fresh air on the upper deck with a 360-degree view.
  • Afternoon:
    • On the Stanserhorn Summit: A short panoramic walk to the summit cross to spot marmots in their park and meet the local volunteer rangers.
    • Return to Lucerne: Afternoon dedicated to discovering the historic center of Lucerne. Enjoy an easy walk on the famous Kapellbrücke (Europe's oldest covered wooden bridge), visit the Lion Monument, and shop for souvenirs in the medieval squares before your final departure

Here are the main types of walks you can experience on the mountain:
  • The Classic Panoramic Trail (Easy): The famous, flat Rigi Kulm - Rigi Kaltbad walk, suitable for everyone (including strollers), which follows the track of an old alpine railway, offering immense vistas over Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug [1].
  • Ridge and Viewpoint Trails (Intermediate): Breathtaking yet safe treks along grassy ridges, such as the trail toward Rigi Scheidegg, where you hike suspended between the blue lakes on the valley floor and the peaks of Central Switzerland.
  • Culinary and Wellness Walks (Relaxing): Easy strolls connecting traditional alpine huts (perfect for tasting local cheeses) that conclude at the historic Mineralbad & Spa thermal baths in Rigi Kaltbad.
